Project Overview: Following our DigEx Design Studio(GRDE3016) module. Our task here was that, we had to be in a pair of two to work together for the completion of our project. We were required;
• to plan
• to design and
to prototype and at the end deploy a responsive website application.

Note: Atilla Cultural Group Mauritius does not have an official website for their group, “rather a Facebook page” so this just the journey and or a concept of what I came up with for the creation of it.

Yet Attila has already 49 years existence, performing for all occasions such as

Grand Openings.

Measuring Success

How will you know the app is successful?

To get the creation of our website/application successful, first we will need to know what is our goal and what do we want to achieve with this website?.

Moreover it will also be important to know how it’s being perceived by our target audiences.

Some effective examples to know if our website/application is actually successful is through;

Knowing the number of visitors
Average time on the website- how often do they bounce in and out
Bounce rate — similar to average time
and many more …

UX RESEARCH

GOAL

Identify Project Goals

  • Lion dancing is a traditional Chinese art form in which participants wear a long lion costume, dance and perform acrobatic feats, most commonly during religious festivals and Chinese New Year.
  • Attila’s Cultural Group goal is to introduce the Chinese dance to anyone, no matter what your background or gender is. Yet, lion dancing also represents joy and happiness to the clients, bring luck and to get rid of the devil.

User Groups

Attila’s Cultural group, user group will mainly consist of those who ;

  • Are students of any gender or background.
  • Kung Fu practitioners
  • Those who celebrate the Chinese spring festival

According to the above information for the User group I'd say that the target audiences will vary between ages of 16 to 25 year old's.

User Goal

Attila’s Cultural group, user goal is to provide more unique lion dance music and entertainments and expand their groups more no matter what their race or gender is. Atilla also want to incorporate their own styles and show what they are made of around Mauritius.

UX Design Principles

Some of the UX Design principles that I took into consideration / leveraged upon doing my research and creating the prototype was that;

1. I put the user in the center first

So, as you will see below for the ‘Interview & Survey’ section, I took the ‘Empathy’ principle into consideration and tried to understand and share the same feelings of my interviewee’s.

2. Implementing Context

It is important to give context to everything. Let people understand what we are talking about before going into details. The user does not have to worry about the device he is using, changes in the environment or the context. They can simply rely on a high level of functionality and ease of use regardless of their situation.

3. Implementing Consistency

Consistency is a key UX Design principle as it is all about making things easier for new users and creating a product that does not require constant effort.

So that is why on the creation of the Atilla prototype( part 2) I tried to make it as enjoyable as possible so that it could be picked up much faster by new users and that they won’t need to learn the same things over and over.

4. Giving the right amount of control

Giving users the right amount of control is very important as it gives them the opportunity to correct their mistakes or undo and redo their unwanted clicks.

Again throughout the creation of the Atilla prototype which you will see in part 2, I leveraged the user control as much as I could so that users won’t be too overwhelmed with choices / options presented.

6 PERSONAS + 3 SCENARIOS

Fictional Personas and Scenarios

Based off the 6 Personas that I came up with, I then chose 3 scenarios that could make better decisions and challenge the assumptions about the future.

What I took into consideration upon writing down my 3 scenarios is that I;

Defined the issue.

Gathered data and then.

Developed my scenarios.

Scenario 1: Since Jeremie Chu is a still a school student and does his lion dances because he has to, has finally changed. He now takes his Lion Dance training, events and performances serious now due to the fact that he is now a drummer and participating more through events and performances and notices that he is more seen throughout the pictures when the groups post or look at them on the website.

Scenario 2: After all these months/ years of being a trainee and hard work, Connor James has finally become a full time trainer instructor and is now training others who are still school/university students or working people. He is willing to progress more and promote himself through a website and organize events.

Scenario 3: Anika Patel who could not decide if she wanted to know more about or not know more about the Asian culture and Lion dance traditions, has finally got the understandings of it as she decided to learn about he Asian culture and Lion dance traditions history and attended events and performances for the first time which made her want to attend more and learn more.
